At 28, Marco Mezquida is already one of the most valued and sought after Spanish jazz musicians. He is a four-time Best Jazz Musician awardee, winning this honor in 2011-13 and again in 2015 by the Jazz Music Association of Catalonia. Mr. Mezquida also won several awards in different piano contests in Catalonia and Spain. His record My Friend Marko was awarded Best Jazz Record in 2013.
In his young career, Mr. Mezquida has recorded more than 40 albums, many of them for reputed record companies such as Fresh Sound New Talent. He has played in jazz festivals in over 25 countries, as well as in jazz clubs worldwide: New York’s Blue Note, San Francisco’s SF Jazz, Berlin’s A Trane, Paris’ Sunside, Munich’s Unterfahrt, Amsterdam’s Bimhuis, Viena’s Porgy and Bess, Budapest’s BMC, Brussel’s Jazz Station, St Petersburg’s JFK, Osaka’s Blue Train and Barcelona’s Jamboree.
His busy solo piano concert schedule takes him around the world yet he makes time to collaborate with many different jazz bands and theatre. His work in theatre includes the incidental music for the Catalan version of Simons Stephens’ The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime, and the original scores for Ivan Andrade’s musicals A New Beginning and A Little Prince.
